Meet Ashton

Hi, I’m Ashton! I’m thrilled you’re here learning more about me before casting your vote this November!

I’ve spent my entire life in Blaine, graduating from Spring Lake Park High School in 2019. Over the past 20 years, I’ve seen our city grow and evolve firsthand.

My deep connection to serving our community stems from my upbringing as the child of immigrant parents from Guyana. My dad, a nurse, and my mom, a health unit coordinator, have profoundly influenced my commitment to community service.

At just 10 years old, I started volunteering at Augusta Senior Living Home every summer and winter—not for school credit or hours, but simply for the joy of helping others. By the age of 12, I joined our local Civil Air Patrol Squadron, where I was taught what it takes to be a leader. It was at CAP where I embraced the  values of Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect—principles I hold dear today.

My  journey into politics was unexpected, my first passion has always been music. I was an All-State flutist, performed with the Minnesota Youth Symphony, and  attended College in North Carolina to study Music Performance.

But then COVID-19 happened. Our school shut down, arts programs across the country suffered, and this led me to explore new interests and ultimately an internship with the Anoka County Community Action Program. There, I immersed myself  important issues such as poverty prevention, rights for low-income families and seniors, and access to early education through the HeadStart Program (which I am a proud graduate of).

In the past year, I’ve worked as an Employment Consultant at RISE, Inc., where I’ve assisted individuals with disabilities in finding, keeping, and exploring meaningful employment opportunities. This role has deepened my understanding of the barriers many face in the job market and strengthened my resolve to advocate for greater inclusivity and support.

I’m currently studying Music Performance and Philosophy with a concentration in Pre-Law, aspiring to become a flutist and/or a lawyer to help those who cannot afford legal representation.

When I’m not immersed in political work or consulting, you might find me playing the flute, fishing, or backpacking on the Superior Hiking Trail!
